Clergy Albs
An alb is an ankle-length church vestment worn at Mass by priests and deacons. Lectors and cantors often wear albs as well. Clerical albs are worn by all Catholic and Episcopal clergy, and are used by many other Christian denominations as well. The priest celebrating a Mass will wear an alb underneath his chasuble. Deacons and concelebrants wear an alb with a stole to signify their clerical role. Albs are often secured around the waist with cinctures. The alb symbolizes the garment of the newly baptized, and the purity of heart and sould required for Mass. It also calls to mind the ceremonial white garment with which Pilate clothed Jesus on Good Friday.
Saint Patrick's Guild carries albs in both pullover and coat styles. We work closely with clergy apparel manufacturers and vestment makers to bring you a broad selection of high-quality albs. We offer classic favorites such as the American-made Abbey Brand alb, as well as finely tailored European albs from companies such as Houssard and Slabbinck.
