The Miraculous Medal Necklace's design originated in 1830, through an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Catherine Laboure. Mary instructed St. Catherine to strike a medal from the model revealed to her, with the promise that 'all who wear it will receive great graces, especially if they wear it around the neck'. Many miracles have been attributed to this miraculous medal, which features a representation of Mary on the front, surrounded by the prayer, 'O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.'
