It is believed that St. Anne was possibly from Nazareth, marrying Joachim at age twenty and giving birth to Mary at age forty. Believing themselves to be barren, they constantly prayed for an end to their childlessness. At last, an angel appeared to Anne, assuring her that she would conceive and that her child 'shall be blessed by all the world.' Anne responded by promising to dedicate her child to the service of God. St. Anne is patron of mothers and grandmothers, women in labor, childless women, and Canada. Her feast day is July 26.
