On August 19, 2005, the announcement was proclaimed: 'Habemus papam!'('We have a Pope!') Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger had been elected and took the name Benedict XVI, partly as a link to Benedict XV, who guided the Church through the First World War; and St. Benedict of Nursia, whose Benedictine order greatly influenced the spread of Christanity throughout Europe.
This 5x7 laminated portrait of the Pope taken close to the time of his election also features the general papal coat-of-arms. (Pope Benedict has since adopted a new shield designed especially for him.)
Bordered with a slim gold mylar frame; includes an attached loop for hanging.
