Called 'the Voyager' or 'the Navigator,' St. Brendan is renowned for his many missionary journeys by ship, one of which lasted seven years! After becoming a monk and a priest, Brendan himself became an abbott, eventually founding many successful monasteries in Ireland. A desire to spread the good news inspired Brendan and sixty companions to sail to several missionary fields, including the Scottish Isles and the 'Isles of the Blessed' (believed to be North America); not surprisingly, he is designated as the patron saint of sailors, navigators, mariners, seafarers, and yachtsmen. His feast day is May 16.
This sterling silver St. Brendan medal is about the size of a quarter, measuring about one inch in diameter. The front of the medal features the image of Brendan cradling a sailing ship in his right arm and elevating a cross with his left, bordered by his name in easy-to-read block lettering. The back is blank, ideal for engraving a name or significant date. St. Patrick's Guild offers personalized engraving services for $9.95.

The 'endless' design insures durability, helping to prevent medal loss due to breakage. The St. Brendan medal makes an appropriate gift to commemorate a First Communion or Confirmation! It would also be a lovely gesture to give a St. Brendan medal to someone who enjoys boating or sailing; this religious medal would also be perfect for someone in the Navy.
