Teaching children about social concerns and acting justly in the world can start at an early age. Anne Neuberger's book, To Act Justly Introducing Catholic Social Teaching to Children gives religious education teachers and parents a wonderful resource to introduce and work with children concerning this issue. The book has four parts with each part starting with an explanation about the teachings in that section and following with stories about people who carried out the acts of social justice talked about in the section. The sections in To Act Justly include one about the beatitudes, the Church in the modern world, the seven principles of social justice in the Catholic Church and resources for action. Each section has stories about saints or individuals who have carried out the social justice principles discussed in the teachings of that section and each story includes suggestions for discussion and activities. Children learn about a particular concept of social justice from the story told and are then encouraged to put that concept into action in their own lives. To Act Justly is a handy resource for both religious education teachers and parents and the suggestions make it easy to use in school, church or the home.
