St. Elizabeth

Saint Elizabeth was born in Hungary in 1207 and is the patron saint of widows, nurses and caregivers. St. Patrick's Guild carries several items which can be purchased in honor of her including a St. Elizabeth medal, a St. Elizabeth statue and a St. Elizabeth of Hungary medal. She was married at the age of 14 and when her husband was absent she took over the affairs of the castle and built a hospital, visited prisoners, and aided the poor thus preserving Elizabeth's fame as the gentle and charitable chatelaine of the castle.

Although relics and all that was sacred to her were destroyed, the entire German people still honor Saint Elizabeth. She is generally represented as a princess graciously giving alms to the poor or as holding roses in her lap. A St. Elizabeth medal, St. Elizabeth statue or St. Elizabeth of Hungary medal would be a lovely gift to give one who bears her name or for one who has chosen her as a Confirmation saint to use as a life model.
