St. Peter

St. Peter the Apostle, a Jewish fisherman, was one of the original Disciples of Christ. He is recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as the first Pope. Martyred for his faith, he is the patron saint of bridge builders, fishermen, long life, butchers, fever, foot trouble, and stationers. Since the name “Peter” means, “rock,” St. Peter is considered to be the rock of the church despite his many human failings on the path of following the teachings of Jesus. This offers hope for all of us as we do our best, but may fall short. We know the love of Jesus is still with us. Displaying a St. Peter statue or wearing a St. Peter medal is a way to be inspired by this courageous follower of Christ.
