Archbishop Fulton J Sheen who authored this book was one of the foremost Catholic theologians of his time along with being a popular radio and TV personality with his radio and TV shows The Catholic Hour and Life is Worth Living running for many years. His book The Mystical Body of Christ, first published in 1935, explores the themes of "the Eucharist as a source of unity for the Mystical Body of Christ-the-Church and also the links between the liturgy and social justice". These themes were echoed decades later at the Second Vatican Council. He extends the thought of the Church, or the people, being an extension of the Incarnation and thus active as the representatives of Christ in the world today unified through the Eucharist and working actively for social justice. Archbishop Sheen has more than 30 other books still in print and is considered to be one of the best loved Catholic theologians and evangelists of all time. The process of the canonization of Archbishop Sheen has begun so the re-release of The Mystical Body of Christ is quite timely.
