Richard Rohr is internationally known as a bestselling writer, teacher and founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation. His book, Silent Compassion Finding God in Contemplation discusses using contemplation or silence to find the God we all experience in a variety of ways, to find ourselves joined in unity but not necessarily in uniformity. The book talks about living non-dualistically and finding out what that means to you by sitting with this idea in silent contemplation. This "divine silence" opens us to compassion for others and helps us see deeper meanings in all we experience. Silence surrounds everything and by finding God in the silence you find God in everything. In Silent Compassion representatives of other religions such as a representative of the Dalai Lama, a Jewish rabbi and a professor of Islamic studies give responses to some of the ideas that Rohr presents in this book and talk about how some of these ideas are found in their beliefs. Sitting in meaningful and divine silence is a discipline in which the reader is encouraged to become involved to help develop compassion for all things around the reader.
