When you enter many churches one of the first things you notice are the Stations of the Cross displayed around the church. This is a devotion practiced especially during Lent when the people of the church walk the journey through the final days of the life of Jesus to his resurrection. In his book, Stations of the Cross, Timothy Radcliffe presents each station and then expands on the spiritual message found in what is happening in that particular station with a relevant meditation. Each station is accompanied by stunning artwork by acclaimed liturgical artist Martin Erspamer, OSB, a monk of St. Meinrad Archabbey in southern Indiana. The artwork allows the author to draw deeper meaning from the image for meditation and contemplation. The Stations of the Cross are an expression of the core of our faith and Radcliffe explores our faith more deeply with the meditations he presents with each station. In his meditation on the Sixth Station where Veronica wipes the face of Christ Radcliffe talks about the face of Jesus being the face of God, the importance of looking into the faces of the people we see around us, and being aware of the face we present to the world. Stations of the Cross will be a book you wish to spend time with and meditate on during the Lenten season.
