One of the most important documents to come out of the term of John Paul II was his presentation of the Theology of the Body. The document was quite long and scholarly so not widely read. Christopher West took the document and put it into a more translatable form but that was also extremely long. Theology of the body for Beginners is a much smaller book and commentary that still contains the basic ideas and teachings of John Paul II but condensed in a way that is easier to read and understand. In the introduction to Theology of the Body, West describes John Paul II's document as "a rich biblical reflection on the meaning of human embodiment, particularly as it concerns sexuality and erotic desires." The Theology of the Body has an informational introduction which explains what theology of the body is, how John Paul II developed his document and why it is so important for Christians today. Based on new material discovered, The Theology of the Body contains presents a much improved translation of the original ideas and teachings of John Paul II about sexuality in the world today.
