This beautiful three barred cross is filled with rich symbolism. The top bar is where the INRI inscription was placed, the middle bar was where Jesus outstretched his arms when placed on the cross and the bottom bar is thought to have been a foot rest although this is not known for sure. The beautifully colored image is decoupaged on a wood background and the cross measures 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches. There is much symbolism on the cross one example being near the top of the cross where you find two angels holding towels as an indication that they serve and wait on the Lord. Greek, Latin and Slavic words are written on the cross and include the phrases Angels of the Lord and King of Glory among others. The back of the cross contains a prayer written in Slavic. The three barred cross comes from Russia.
