Searching for First Communion gift ideas? Read on! Like many religious occasions, First Communion encompasses important traditions - preparation rituals, special attire, and the giving of mementos and gifts to mark the occasion. These mementos and gifts tend to be religious, spiritual, or reflective in nature. Gatherings at church or home are common and where gift giving takes place. However, some First Communion gifts for girls are given before the event if they are meant to be used and/or worn on the day of the sacrament.

As with any party, celebrations will vary from family to family. Some prefer larger more extravagant events. Others prefer simpler and more low-key gatherings. Certain families feel that money spent on parties is definitely well spent! While others likely feel that money doesn’t affect the quality of the party. First Communion Crafts

3/19/2015 11:00 PM

First Communion is an important step in a child’s religious life. It marks the first time a child receives the body of Christ and usually occurs between the ages of seven and nine. The preparation is a period when the child begins to learn more about what is at the very center of the Catholic faith. They may be asked to learn new rules and prayers. Indeed, the time can be challenging for a child because their independence is growing. As a result, many parents are looking for ways to participate in and support during the preparation, so that the challenges are manageable and educational.

The blessing of the paschal candle occurs on Holy Saturday. A long and specific prayer accompanies the blessing. The Paschal candle represents the Paschal mystery, which pertains to all the things that God sent Jesus to accomplish on earth - the passion, death and resurrection. This mystery is at the center of Catholic faith and explains why the Paschal candle is lit during the Easter season. It also explains why the Paschal candle remains in the church all year long and why it is lit during very important times (baptisms and funerals, notably). It is a symbol of the very basis of the Catholic Church and beliefs.

As I have said in previous posts, First Communion is a critical and memorable step in a child’s life for faith. The sacrament marks the first time a child receives the body of Christ. Because of this sacred act, a child is required to prepare thoroughly - which can be a lot to ask of someone who is seven to nine-years-old. While a child may be looking forward to the actual mass and the thoughtful First Communion gifts that come on the special day, there is so much work ahead of that time!

Religious Easter Basket Ideas

3/5/2015 11:00 PM

The tradition of Easter baskets is sweet and enjoyable. The Easter egg and basket hunt is a time-honored tradition in which people of many faiths participate. Easter is celebrated secularly as more of a nod towards springtime, which is evidence by the bright colors. Christians obviously assign deeper meaning to the holiday. Nonetheless, the Easter basket and one’s religion can be tied together seamlessly.
